“Waylon” 1977 Chevy Cheyenne Edition C10, the perfect shop truck or starter truck.
We found waylon in a shed in Kentucky and he hadn’t been on the road for over 20 years. He started out life as a stock longbed C10 with a camper shell. We knew he had good bones and thought he would be the perfect candidate to resurrect. Waylon isn’t perfect(has some surface rust bubbling through), however the price is reflective of that and a blank canvas for someone to take him even further and put their own stamp on the build.
We started with an attitude adjustment in the form of a 5/7 static drop. This was done the correct way with all new components. Drop spindles, springs, shocks, track bar relocator, shock relocators, and a c notch in the rear. Next we moved to the brake system and replaced the components needed. Next was the fuel system with a new gas tank. Then onto exhaust with duals and new whisper quiet mufflers. We threw a battery in him some new plugs and wires and he started up like a champ no hesitation, rough idle, nothing just purring like a kitten. This ole 350 small block is quieter than a new 5.3 Vortec motor it’s crazy. The turbo 350 Automatic transmission shifts smooth a silk. Next we moved our attention to the exterior, we removed the camper shell, got out the cutting tools and proceeded to chop the bed and the frame to make him a shorty. All associated components like driveshaft, parking brake cable, brake lines, etc were shortened to accommodate the new shorter length bed. We then ordered a set of 17″ classic looking Ridler wheels and new tires to finish off the exterior.
Inside the cabin We recovered the factory seat, painted the door panels, and installed new carpet to complete the overhaul of the interior. All the gauges work except for the clock and Waylon even has working factory AM/FM radio with most importantly cold AC. 1977 was a great year and the only year the C10 came with the custom gold trim that Waylon is sporting. Pair that up with the bumper guards, fog logs, and two tone paint gives you the ultimate retro looking truck to tool around town in.
Waylon rides like a caddy, I can’t explain it but he’s a dream to drive as far as handling, ride, and even the ole 350 has enough get up and go to impress(not blow your mind) you for a 42 year old original motor.
